I am a mother, a grandmother, and a teacher. But whatever happens in my life, I keep sewing. I have worked as a political communicator and now as a teacher in my formal life. I have also written extensively on sewing. I have been a frequent contributor and contributing editor of Threads magazine and the Australian magazine Dressmaking with Stitches. My book Sew.. the garment-making book of knowledge was published in May 2018 and is available for pre-order from Amazon

A break from previously scheduled programming

I will be taking a break until next Monday or Tuesday, while I do this wedding. We are now expecting a cyclone which may impact on the outdoor ceremony, although the bride says it will not rain, and she is pretty tough. Brothers are trying to negotiate surfing time off during the day and the husband is up to his elbows in buttermilk biscuits. Have had to change around cabin occupants because of different political views (who called this election, either election anyway).

Full report and back to sewing next week.

I'll miss you.

Thanks Heather, it was great and my daughter and son-in-law had the best time of all. Glad I sew though because all my spare time will be mine again after having spent most weekends this last few months, wedding engage. On to the pants project.

Hi Linda,

I know exactly what your problem is it is one I had before I started this. You do not have a figure problem IMO it is just that most patterns seem to be drafted with the front crotch too long. You might want to try a Burda pattern, they are supposed to be drafted with as shorter front crotch or a Sandra Betzina pattern from Vogue or try the Pivot and Slide method I have described here. I know of some sewers who also take a fold out of the middle of the front crotch seam tapering to the side seam and that seems to help too. Good luck.
