I enjoyed listening to your podcast! Hope you continue to do more. Your thoughts about creativity were quite interesting. I am definitely exactly what you describe, do not think of myself as creative at all. Guess reviewing those thoughts in my head would be a wise idea...
Yes! I am a creative person who sews. You don't have to look far to see all kinds of creative people on the web who sew! One of my goals is to infuse my sewing with more obvious creative details.
Another great podcast and I was thrilled to read you are going to get this up on itunes :) I've taken a quote from your podcast..."the artist is also the gallery"! and bringing it to my monthly sewing meet up group at Gala Fabrics here in Victoria. I've been a part of this group for 2 years (literally this month is my 2 yr anniversary :) ) Your whole discussion on creativity was inspiring to listen to. I believe sewing your own clothes is an incredible act of creativity. My mother (back in 1971) thought it was a ridiculous waste of time when you could simply go and buy your clothes (she believed there wasn't any cost savings either) so I grew up in a home with zero encouragement :) but it quickly became a passion of mine and to do justice to my mother she DID buy a lovely sewing machine mostly for me :)
Not only enjoyable, but an inspiring and entirely original take on being creative, especially in the area of sewing.

I enjoy listening to your podcast. I stop at the your discussion about sewing around your work, live time. I am in similar sewing mode for now. I think of this as a closet sewer, if I keep improving I may come out.

I agree with your thoughts on creativity, though not all of my sewing is creative. Sometimes it is just plain utilitarian. I can tell the difference between the two in how I feel while I am sewing -- just get it done, I need something to wear, or taking my time, thinking through the process and solving the problems as they arise.
I do think that many activities not thought to be creative actually are. We tend to associate creativity with art, but I think it is way bigger than that. Every time we think of a new solution to a problem we are thinking creatively, whether we are sewing, writing software, teaching, parenting, painting, whatever.
It would be so great if each of us could become aware of our own creativity instead of believing that creativity is just for a select few. Those of us in the older generations were perhaps not raised to value imagination and creativity but I think (hope!) this is changing.
