Creative Spark online course

 Hi folks.

I have some news.

One of my latest projects has been to do a video course for the Creative Spark online learning platform with my publisher C&T. This course is for any one with a sewing machine, of course you can use a serger/overlocker if you have one, but they are not required. In fact I demonstrate many techniques on my sewing machine and explain why in some instances I use my sewing machine even though I have both a serger and coverhem machine.

The link to my page and my course is here and this is a video describing the whole project.

I decided to do a small series, starting with this first course, on sewing with knits. This course is not of course geared towards folks who are already knit friendly, but for sewers who have what I call knit nervousness.

Specifically I am dedicating this one to my sister Dawn. Dawn   is an amazingly accomplished quilter but more or less every year, at least once, tells me she should make a T-shirt but doesn't understand how to work with knits. Every year I tell her it's easy. Every year she says she knows she has to make the leap.

This course is the basic introduction to working with stretchy fabrics I think sewers like her might find useful and I have included all my own opinions and tricks in it.

This first course is on T-shirts, subsequent ones are planned on swimwear, neckline variations, skirts, pants/leggings and sportsbras/underwear.

I really enjoyed doing these videos. They were filmed, Covid-style, in my kitchen by my good sport husband.

Hope someone finds the course useful, and given the circumstances, entertaining!

Hello,
I tried the link to Creative Spark but it "refused to connect" - their words, not mine.

Oh dear, I tried and it worked. But here is the url just in case.

Try pasting that into your browser and please let me know if you still have problems!

Hi Barba, I also had problems getting it. Also, I am a Luddite & don't know what "pasting it into your browser" means. I do have someone I can ask but maybe a lot of people will have the same problem. The course will no doubt be very useful for me. Janet in Halifax

Hi Janet,

If you copy this below and paste it into the bar at the top of the screen it should take you to the right site:

If I try to connect through Bloglovin' it does not work, but if you use the right mouse button and not the left and sk it to open in a new tab it works fine. I am looking forward to some more complicated courses as I can use knit fabrics fine, since I wear knit a lot I started with them early on.... no use making clothes I won't wear!

Barbara - Are the prices on this website in US or Canadian dollars? I can't find anything that indicates either. Unfortunately, your broadcasts will be at 2 am GMT, but I would consider buying to see the videos.
Thanks.

Shelley I believe it is all in US dollars. My Zoom sessions are at that time but the video lessons can be done on demand and I am also happy to do one-to-one sessions as required too on times that work for us both. Just contact me.

For your class with Creative Spark is it necessary to have a serger +/or a cover stitch machine?

Can you take this course with a regular sewing machine or do you need a serger/cover machine.

Barbara said...

Pat and ssr I have updated this post to be more specific. Thanks for pointing that out.

You absolutely do not need a serger or a coverhem for this course? As long as you have a sewing machine that zig zags you are good!
