Am jealous of all the sewing space you have. Love your flypaper thoughts, been reading your blog for awhile now.
Love, love, love all of the shelving! And your home should reflect your interests and not just be a place to shelter furniture you don't use.
Glad you had a great trip, and loving having your flypaper thoughts back.
When my son left home for college, I waited a year before gently inquiring if it would be OK with him if I moved my sewing studio out of its small basement home into his upstairs bedroom (nice windows, and its own little deck overlooking the backyard). Why did I wait a year?
BECAUSE, when I went off to college, my mother moved out of her kitchen pantry sewing space into my bedroom The. Next. Day. Ever after that, when I came home to visit (or even, for a few months, to live), I slept on the living couch. Not a fold-out bed/couch, either.
Now that I am older and wiser, I realize, of course, that Mom had her priorities EXACTLY right. Have fun with your new sewing space!!!!

Looks wonderful to me! So happy to see new flypaper thoughts. I discovered your blog recently, I’m a beginning sewer who finally decided to learn so I could sew for my first grandchild, and yours has quickly become my fav irate blog. Thank you so much for writing.

Nice of you to share with the niece for a while but good for you claiming that basement space as yours now. I started out with a small corner in the family room (25 x 15 foot room) and now occupy the whole space. LOVE IT! And I love what your friend did upon becoming a widow. I have often thought that if I lived alone would I utilize my home the same way as now. I don't think so. But I hope I don't find out any time soon.
So glad your trip was 'epic'. Don't know if I could leave home for 3 months. Hubby retires in 2 weeks and wants to do just that...RV it around the country. I am a home body. Yikes!

Garnet the secret to traveling in an rv, and why I do it, is to turn it into your house. All your own stuff, it’s like you travel in the days and get to go home to your own bed every night, it’s got so I hate hotels. I travel with my sewing room with me.

And, trust me on this, very very young children can be taught to make coffee! (I mean it’s a really repetitive task, right?)
I can recommend the Tessuti Frankie top for breastfeeding - I made it out of a rayon/lycra grey marle for my daughter. It would probably work for most of a pregnancy, too, particularly if you get the length right.
It's got a nice flare, but not so big that it's tent-like. It's also great for the postmenopause lack of waist too :-)

Congrats on the new grandchild to be. My son makes his own coffee and he's 14 tomorrow. He probably could have done it at 10...8, 6.. it's just training. Good to get the sewing room back... looks a great space.
We are in the last stages of converting my DH's shop into my new studio. It used to be a double garage. It has been a huge undertaking and we are doing the reno ourselves, we are seniors! My old studio is going to be my Withdrawing Room and I'm as excited about this as I am about my new studio. Enjoy your new sewing space.
I had a mouse infestation--I later found out that it was the dog food that attracted them. I tried a lot of different things but the solution turned out to be getting a cat. Mice don't like the smell of cat urine and will stay away. I haven't seen a mouse, mouse droppings, or chewed up clothing since. I had a damaged sweater knit cardigan and some socks that needed repairing due to their nesting.
Since you have dogs, look in nooks and crannies for stashed away dog food. I found about 5 pounds stashed behind a couple false walls that I had in my kitchen cabinets. The stashed away food had attracted a baby opossum. I was stunned because I had no clue the dog food was there until the opossum was back there eating something. Good luck in getting rid of them.

Love the sewing space. My husband has given his blessing to me taking over the rec room for my sewing space. We'll see.
Space, space, space....spread out and enjoy! Congrats on the new grand baby and a safe arrival home. It takes me quite a while to get back into the home routine after living fancy free for two months. And darn mice;-( So now I am off to my own sewing space to try to clear some working space from sewing retreat projects and some new purchases that must be put away. Thanks for the update.
