- Leave for 2.5 months in Florida day after tomorrow
- Packing the RV in the driveway and continuing what passes for normal life
- Question
- Should I take UFOs or new stuff to make?
- Some of those UFOs have at least 5,000 miles on them already
- There and back and the sleeves still not in
- Never under estimate the power of a good garment
- True story here
- Last weekend my 88 year old mother was woken up in the middle of the night
- Woman at the door was battered and said the Hell's Angels were after her
- What did my mother do?
- Exactly what any good Christian with not a brain in her head would
- Let her in, called the police, and called the woman's mother
- Her mother would want to know
- All ended well by the time the cruisers left
- Apart from the nearly giving my sisters and I a stroke when we heard this
- Why, why did you do this mom?
- Don't you watch the news?
- "I knew she was not a bad person" said my mother.
- "How could you possible tell that?" I asked
- "She was wearing a good coat," said my mother
- I forgot to ask what the fabric was
- And you wonder where I got it from
- My youngest is still on tour in Peru
- And everyone thinks I wake up at night and can't get back to sleep because of my age
- Actually it's their age
- Big snowstorm forecast for when we drive into Boston and when I was planning to see my kids in NYC
- There would have to be one big pile of snow before I drive past New York without a site visit
- I think they might be afraid of that
- My own grandmother was a Winnipeg snowshoe champ in her day
- If you have ever stood on Portage and seen the police in buffalo coats you know that is no joke
- That woman was riding around in the bus in nylons, a mink coat, zip up overshoes and a plastic rain hat at -50 into her early 90s
- The insulating value of a good tight perm and button earrings
- I have decided to redefine my own style
- That's as far as I've got so far
- Some of the ladies in the sewing guild are brave
- Inspired me to try arty
- First time
- Made Cutting's Easy, ageless and cool pants
- Magnificent instructions
- Not sure that I have not produced what my dad would have called Whoopee pants
- When I slow down enough for pictures you can tell me
- BTW best sewn item of 2015 was a sleeping mask
- Makes the difference between sleeping like a rock and like a skipping stone
- Think of Miss Daisy and I driving down in an RV full of unfinished projects towards the sun
- Will have time then to post of the journey
- Now back to packing

I too escape winter but only for 4 weeks and take as much sewing stuff I can cram into the back of an SUV. Then when I get there, not much gets done...maybe that is a good sign that my brain prefers to relax and not wrestle with shit I didn't have time to wrestle at home sewing for brides. Your blog posts make me laugh and sympathize...I too have 90 years olds to worry about and children who are adults in body but not in mind. Nice part about making a sleep mask...no fitting issues! Wear those whoopie pants with pride...no one knows you from Adam where you are going and it may keep the mosquitoes away!
Just plain jealous. Want to go south.
Miss Daisy lets you go without her? Well my Zulu doesn't know if you are here or not here but Molly knows and gives a mournful look. Oddly Miss Molly is the more aloof.

Love mom and grand ma too! And who said a tight perm doesn't offer any value? And I'm sorry, nothing beats a vintage fur for staying warm. Hubs is threatening to buy an RV and we tour around the country. Mind you, we've never vaca'd in one, let alone even driven one. Fine, I say, just make sure there is room for my sewing machine, and no, I will not be making sandwiches as we fly down the road. Until then, I just found your blog with your interesting life and family and I can live thru you! Keep us posted on all the interesting wildlife you see in FL.

You promised us some writing about independent pattern designers I thought. Or maybe I was just hoping. Drive safe. Don't talk to anybody who isn't wearing a good coat!
Promise an indie review once I have time to sit down. Lots on my mind on that subject.
I think you should leave the UFO's at home and enjoy new creations. Then, when you get back to Canada you can decide what you really want to finish. Hope Miss Daisy is doing well.
Love, love, love your mom! I cracked up at "the insulating value of a good tight perm and button earrings" but got a little worried when the next line was "I have decided to redefine my own style". I think some things really need to skip a generation...or two :)
I've tried both taking UFOs with the idea that I would finish on vacation, and taking new and exciting projects. For me the new and exciting works better - the UFOs that were boring at home turn out to also be boring on the road and come home still UFOs.
We need a support group for people with parents in their 90s and kids in their 20s.....its anxiety which ever way I look. And dog sitting, thankfully.

I love the good coat idea.....I am sure that is something my 87 Mom would also come up with.....dressing is still very important to her. Enjoy the sun.
Good on your Mum! How brave and kind and so no nonsense! I think take new fun things to sew and drive safely.
Ah, Barbara, thanks for a good morning laugh. Soak up all the sunshine you can :-) Colorado has had a bitter winter, too. Though nothing like Mongolia (which seems to have a lot in common with Winnipeg: crazy temps and women coping by wearing furs), I have just froze this winter. Missing those 3' thick walls and over heated (by the city) apartments. Drive safe!
Safe travels! Maybe this can be the winter we finally meet up. You can save me from more renovation work at Alex's little investment house.
I had a similar experience to your mother's; guy banging on the door said a gang where chasing him to hurt him. I did not let him in as........ he was shirtless!! Did call the cops though. All ended well, no gang showed up.
